Like many, I first heard about the Village Movement when I watched a CBS Evening News story in 2003 about the original Village in Beacon Hill, near Boston, MA. That Village quickly turned into a national movement, now called the Village to Village Network.
I went to their national conference in Atlanta, Georgia in 2012 to produce one of the first stories for Staying Put or Moving On. I also got involved with helping a Village grow in my hometown of Mill Valley. Mill Valley Village is one of the communities partnered with Marin Villages.
Marin Villages recently asked me to join some other volunteers and help create a short video called “The Faces of 90” to honor their members celebrating 90+ birthdays. Lisa Brinkmann and Isaiah Schwerin of Marin Villages produced, 87-year-old photographer, Ginna Fleming shot stills and b-roll and her granddaughter, Kim Scarsella (who recently graduated from Cornell where she studied film) shot the interviews. I edited the piece.
The Birthday Blow Out party and video helped Marin Villages raise money to support their programs through the purchase of virtual candles to help light the cakes. Since May is Older Americans Month, the video was a great way to honor them, too.
Check it out. There are some pretty amazing 90-year-olds!
