Moving Closer to Family

It’s not unusual anymore for families that grew up in the same house to find themselves separated by many miles as they grow older. When downsizing, medical issues or just a desire to be closer to family combine forces, moving to a new city — or even a new state paves the way to new possibilities.

HEART OF THE MATTER – MOVING ON… MOVING BACK

Some decisions seem pretty darn simple. Your 95-year old father has a stroke in a small southern town with few resources to assist him. You live in another part of the country and you and your siblings decide it is best for him to move to assisted living closer to you so you can spend more time with him and monitor his care. He agrees. Easy call.

Until you get to The Heart of the Matter. And as with most things in life, it’s best to keep an open mind, especially when you need to move beyond what seem like the obvious answers.

CLOSER TO THE KIDS

Some changes are planned. Others are unexpected. And sometimes they’re both. But regardless of the outcome, it’s good to have family and friends nearby.

MOVING THE MCGILLIVRAYS

It wasn’t easy for the McGillivrays to leave their family home after nearly 50 years, but knew they needed easier access to medical care and their family, so they reluctantly decided it was time. They were in for a surprise when their kids took charge.
